Westminster Dog Show: Rottweiler Kaz wins Award of Merit

Kaz (Ch. Blackrocks Kazanova), a rottweiler, won an Award of Merit in his breed at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

Kaz won his Championship in five shows in the Open Dog Class. Out of 52 All-Breed AKC Shows, Kaz won 51 Best of Breed placements.

UK - Ice saves dumped Rottweiler puppies from death

February 10, 2009 - Four tiny puppies managed to survive being tossed into a canal because the water was frozen over.

These puppies were treated in the most callous way, thrown into the river in a black bin liner weighted down with a paving slab. It was just fortunate that the ice held otherwise they'd have died.

But the puppies, only a few days old, managed to survive the "horrendous act of cruelty" because the ice held their weight.

The animals, black and tan in colour, were saved in the nick of time, before hypothermia set in.

A passing walker noticed the stricken pups in the canal near the Don Valley Stadium last Sunday and alerted the authorities.

At age 10, winner is youngest in a decade by correctly spelling "rottweiler

South Columbia Elementary School's Rachael Cundey won the Columbia County Spelling Bee by correctly spelling "rottweiler." She competed against 24 other elementary and middle school pupils at Monday's bee.

Rottweiler found shot dead at empty house in New Jersey

2 men were seen driving up to home, then dumping the a Rottweiler dog found shot to death with his paws tied together at an abandoned house.

A witness reported seeing two men Honda Civic up the driveway of the home before they dumped the dead Rottweiler

When authorities arrived at the abandoned home, they found the dead Rottweiler had his paws tied together.

The body was then transported to an animal hospital where it was examined and found to have bullet holes in it.

The male Rottweiler did not have a microchip or any identification on it. A reward is being offered to anyone with information leading to the arrest of the suspected killers.

U.S. Official: American Citizen 'Abused' in Foreign Prison - FOXNews.com

The U.S. government declared for the first time Wednesday that an American citizen detained in Belarus for nearly a year has been "abused" in prison.

The citizen, Emanuel Zeltser, is a Russian-born lawyer from New York who was arrested in Minsk last March following a trip overseas to pursue a legal and financial dispute with billionaire Russian "oligarch" Boris Berezovsky.

Supporters of Zeltser allege Berezovsky arranged to have him spirited out of London on a private plane and transported to Minsk against his will. Last August, Zeltser was tried and convicted in a closed-door Belarusian trial on espionage and other charges, at which Berezovsky testified, and sentenced to three years in prison.
