UK - woman fined for neglecting Rottweiler Puppy

A BERRY Brow woman escaped with a fine after appearing in court for neglecting a dog.Anne Green, pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a one-year-old rottweiler puppy that was in her care. The male dog, named Chase, was rescued from Mrs Green's tenth-floor flat at Holme Park Court by RSPCA officers.

RSPCA Inspectors went to the flat and saw the dog through the letterbox. She put tape seals over the door and her colleague returned two days later to find the seals intact. This meant the door had not been opened and nobody had been to the flat.

Inspectors contacted police who forced entry to the flat. The dog was found alone in the property, underweight and dehydrated but not in a serious condition. There was no food and the only water available was stagnant water in a mop bucket.

The balcony window was also open, leaving the dog vulnerable to a fall from the 10th storey.

Chase was taken away by the RSPCA and seen by a vet. He had an identity microchip and a scan of this revealed his owner was a Miss Heathcote, who had reported the Rottweiler missing to police months earlier.

Mrs Green, representing herself in court, said the prosecution's version of events was correct and said: "I shouldn't have done it." She was fined and is also banned from keeping animals for five years and cannot appeal against the ban for a minimum of three years.

Chase has now been returned to his original owner Miss Heathcote and is doing well.
